It looks like Google’s latest addition to social media, but it might be more than that.
Spaces is like a combination of Pinterest and Hangouts with a bit of Google+ thrown in.
How does it work?
It’s basically a shared messaging area where you and your friends can post content, links and videos, and leave comments.
How can I use it?
Once you’ve created a group you can share the link with friends, colleagues or whoever. Everyone is free to participate in the group conversation and post their own content.
So it’s just like Whatsapp then?
Not really. Although you can create large groups to shared content (max is 500), Spaces has the advantage of opening all links in the app. So you don’t have to keep opening new tabs like you would with Whatsapp.
So it’s just a new social media then?
Not really. Spaces isn’t needy like Facebook or Twitter, you simply post stuff and it stays there. You’re not fishing for likes or shares or retweets. Content is shared for its own sake and because it’s Google it’s well indexed and easily searchable..
So what good is it to me?
You can use it with friends or colleagues to share videos, links, holiday plans, business ideas, that sort of thing.
What else? Can I use it for work?
Yes. You can set up professional groups and share content with like-minded individuals.
What are you going to do with it?
I’ve set up a Copywriting space, where I’ll be sharing useful resources for copywriters.
Sounds great, how do I join?
